Blender Scale In One Direction
Try moving the object origin to one end of the cylinder.

I have read a lot of the manual and watched also some video tutorials but i couldn t find a proper solution for my problem. When i use the scale tool it tells me how much my mesh is being scaled in all three x y z directions. Plane locking locks the transformation to two axes or forbids transformations along one axis thus creating a plane in which the element can be moved or scaled freely.
